Dozens Take a Stand in Portland Against US Involvement in the Ukraine Conflict

As first reported by the Portland Press Herald, dozens of protesters gathered in Portland on Saturday to take a stand against our nation's involvement in the Ukraine war. A few of our own CCRC members were also present.

As part of an ongoing series of statewide demonstrations in recent months, the gathering at Woodfords Corner marked a moment of people coming together to advocate for peace and to demand an end to the substantial expenditure of billions of dollars by the United States on the war in Ukraine.

The event's sponsors included PeaceWorks of Greater Brunswick, Maine Natural Guard, Communist Party of Maine, Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space, Maine Green Independent Party, People’s Party of Maine and Citizens Opposing Active Sonar Threats (COAST).

While opinions on US involvement in the war vary in both conservative and liberal circles, you can read a recent op-ed by one Portland Republican here: https://www.ccrcme.com/post/conflicted-opinions-over-ukraine-conflict-over-1-year-after-invasion.
