Bio for Matt Jacobson:
Business and Energy Executive | Veteran | Community Leader
Matt Jacobson is a Maine business and energy executive with a career spanning military
aviation, transportation, corporate leadership, and public policy. He currently serves as the
Sales and Marketing leader for Summit Natural Gas of Maine, where he oversees expansion
and community engagement across the Kennebec Valley and Greater Cumberland region.
Under his leadership, Summit continues to grow as a key part of Maine’s energy
infrastructure—providing cleaner, more affordable natural gas to homes, businesses, and
industry throughout the state.
Before joining Summit, Matt led several Maine-based organizations focused on strengthening
the state’s economy. As President and CEO of Maine & Company, he helped attract major
employers and private investment to the state. Later, as the first Executive Director of the
Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative, he worked to reintroduce one of Maine’s most iconic
products to the global marketplace.
Matt’s business career also includes significant leadership in the rail transportation industry.
He served as President and CEO of the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad in Maine and later
as a senior executive with the Canadian National/Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago. His
experience in logistics and infrastructure gave him a lasting appreciation for how energy and
transportation systems drive economic opportunity.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Matt began his professional life in the U.S. Air Force,
where he trained as a pilot and flew C-130 tactical airlift and special-operations missions out
of Rhein-Main Air Base in West Germany. He later served as an instructor pilot at the U.S. Air
Force Academy in Colorado Springs, mentoring the next generation of Air Force officers. He
also holds an MBA from Chapman University in Orange, California.
Today, Matt is well known to Maine audiences as “The Energy Guy” on The Ray Richardson
Show on WLOB Radio, where he appears each Tuesday to discuss energy policy, grid
reliability, and Maine’s economic competitiveness.
Beyond his professional life, Matt leads a Men’s Group at Eastpoint Christian Church in South
Portland, helping men strengthen their faith and leadership in their families, workplaces, and
communities. He and his wife live in North Yarmouth and are the proud parents of four
children.
